Nanny McPhee And The Big Bang

Whats It About
Nanny McPhee has been summoned to another group of “naughty” kids who lives in the Countryside with just their mom because their dad is at war. Their cousins, who act very high class and fancy, have come to visit them in the countryside, which is much to their surprise because it would have been a big country mansion except it was your typical country farm house with animals, wet mud and ponds. The Kids do not get on at first but they eventually do due to Nanny McPhee.
Good Points
-Humorous
-Fun
-Cool effects
-Family friendly
Bad Points
-Maggie Gyllenhaal who plays the mom, was naturally a great actor, however, some parts of her “british” accent were often flawed by the dragging of her words, so it made it obvious at times that she is an american actress who have took classes to play her part as a british actress.
-Was at times very boring, due to the dragged out story lines.
-Could have focused on some of the other characters involved to stick with the humor theme throughout the movie
-One of the character from the previous Nanny McPhee movie played a part in the movie, which i think could have been cut from the movie.
-Could have put all or at least a few of the previous characters from the first Nanny McPhee movie.
Overall i would have to say it is a fairly good movie, very boring at the start and at times but often entertaining with good humor…it is a family friendly movie and would appeal to kids aged 15 and under.

How To Train Your Dragon

What Its About
Vikings living on a small island who has “nice houses” and people who tend to be happy and content with their lives spend most of their days fighting fire breathing “killing” dragons. Hiccup (the character who the story follows) is not your typical viking and his father is not at all happy or proud of this because his dad is the leader of these clans of fire breathing dragon “slayers”. A chain of funny events leads up to Hiccup befriending a dragon (toothless) and eventually leading to him proving to his dad that he can be as strong as other vikings on the island.
Good Points:
-Good story build up
-Its in 3D
-Good humor
-Great animation
Bad Points:
-Starts off a bit boring
-Could have gave the dragon a bit more character
Overall i would have to say that this movie was a very well developed story and made for a great watch. Its mainly for a family watch or kids under the age of 15. It exceeded my expectations, it wasn’t as similar to any of the previous Dreamworks movies e.g.(madagascar, shrek) etc…it was different and a bit realistic but still fantasy at the same time. It was humorous and i enjoyed watching it and so did my little cousin aged 6, which is who these films are targeted to. So i would give it a 4 on a scale of 1-5, 5 being highest.

Green Zone

What Its About
ok, well..The movie is based on the Iraq war and Roy Miller (Matt Damon) the Chief Officer of a group of troops is caught in a conundrum while trying to find Weapons of Mass Destruction, which is basically meant to be a detour away from the highly classified truth, which is that there are no Weapons of Mass Destruction. However, Chief Roy Miller has to find out what “Intelligence” has been giving them false information that there are Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq.
Good Points:
-Action packed
-Well written story
-Very insightful
-Makes you re-evaluate your thoughts upon the Iraq war
Bad points:
-Could have focused more on the Iraqi character *freddie*
-Story mostly followed Chief Roy Miller(Matt Damon)
Overall i would have to say that this movie is a very insightful adaption on the modern day war that have escalated in Iraq. The movie is there to make you really think about the type of decisions that are made about this war and the consequences that are reaped in the end, which sadly leads to the deterioration of a country and its people.

Ondine

What Its About
Recovering Alcoholic (Colin Farrel) works on a fisher boat in Ireland and catches a suspicious Fish (Alicja Bachleda-Curus) who is suspected to be a silky (seals who can turn into humans) by his daughter who is suffering from kidney failure.
Good Points:
-Interesting Story
-Unexpected ending
-Funny at times
Bad points:
-Dull scenery
-Gives you a bad impression of up north people
-Story felt dull at times
-Nudity in front of a young child
Overall i would have to say the story was very good to watch but they should have sent it straight to DVD because it felt as if i was watching a long soap opera with no ending. With a movie such as this i would have to say that, its the actors talent that kept me drawn and not the story in particular.

Alice In Wonderland

What Its About
Its not a remake, it is alice when she’s around the age of 17 being prepped by her mother and sister into adulthood. However things do not go according to her family’s plan, as Alice keeps being distracted by a white rabbit. Who eventually gets her to follow him and watch him go through a small tree hole and funnily enough she slips right into the small but deep tree hole.
Good points:
-You get to watch it in 3D as well as the choice of 2D(normal).
-Its a Walt Disney Film, for all the Disney lovers
-The story Thereon is built up very well and gets straight to the point.
-The talented young actress (Mia Wasikowska) played her role very well and so did the rest of her cast especially Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter.
-The 3D effects were very well used and do not distract you from the story.
-If your just watching to see Johnny Depp, then you will be very…ecstatic (hehe)
Bad Points:
-There’s not alot of bad points
-For people who love a lot of special 3d effects, you might be disappointed because they were kept minimal.
-Its more softer than the usual Tim Burton movies
Overall i would have to say that the movie was great. Due to the fact that it is a Walt Disney movie, its understanding that Tim Burton didn’t go too dark with the story/concept of the film because disney is after all for a younger audience but watched by all. So the older audience may be a tad disappointed but unlike me who still slightly remains a child 2/3 of the times, I LOVED IT!
